Very least (but I hope not last!) additions

Ludwig VOGELE had his office in KARLSRUHE Blucherstr. 18

These firms are very obscure and uncertain:

MACK unknown
HAUPTVOGEL unknown
BILLENSTEIN WURZBURG

Some additional information:

the MICHOVIUS company of Cottbus was founded in 1843;

two obscure makers/distributors:

- August SCHMID FRANKFURT a.M.
- Hermann NAUBERT ERFURT
And now.....let's go :fume: with some obscure (but very hot!) makers:

The HERMANN POTTHOFF mechanische mutzen-fabrik was established in 1856 and had a large office installation in COESFELD i. Westf.

The HPC visors were characterized by a special closable ventilation system, the so-called “frischluft” (D.R.G.M. 1419757), by means of a variable quantity of front holes with grommets (from 4 to 6).

The inner circumference had the “stirndruckfrei” system too.
The Company’s logo was a red-brownish circle with HPC in fraktur fonts.

Some HPC commercial papers:

The HPC patent was surely used by the WILHELM MULLER house of BERLIN-KLADOW.

The KURT TRIEBEL fabric used three different labels, all printed in fraktur fonts and with a distinctive overhanging ¾ left-oriented visor and the abbreviation KUTRIKA in capital types:

- KURT TRIEBEL Erste Kasseler Uniform-Mutzen-Fabrik KASSEL

- SONDERKLASSE STIRNDRUCKFREI

- STIRNDRUCKFREI

Currently it is extensively faked under the HATRIKA logo.

The OTTO DITTMANN Mutzenfabrik was established in DRESDEN in 1878. It used a very distinctive logo: a golden Earth (western emisphere) with an horizontal band (with red sides) bearing the inscrïption ”MARKE Odd beste qualitat”. There was also a so-called “Olympia Klasse” with an all-red logo (with white band inscrïption) and a very distinctive lining, marked by rhomboidal sewings. Some models show the golden logo without red inscrïption and “Olympia Klasse” types but with the distinctive lining’s sewings; some others belongs to the ”Olympia Klasse” but don’t have the lining’s sewings; at least, there are some examples that show the golden logo with red inscrïption and the distinctive sewings but don’t have the “Olympia Klasse” types. These facts could demonstrate that the lining’s craftsmanship was independent from the inscrïptions. I will post a Dittmann's visor as soon as possible (I'm waiting for the parcel!!!)

CARL BULOW & SOHN had his offices in GREIFENHAGEN and PODEJUCH (now in Poland). He was mainly a retailer of eReL and HPC visors, but in some cases he used a specific label bearing the word “SONDERKLASSE” too. From the Stettiner 1942 adressbuch it appears that his PODEJUCH office was located in Bahnhofstr. 34 (see image), near the Army engineers’ barracks (see 1942 ortsplan)

HERMANN JENRICH Kurschnermeister had his office in NEUHALDENSLEBEN (the so-called Stadt an der Heide), Hagenstr. 3 (see the image of the shop-window). He used a very distinctive logo, bearing the equestrian monument of the medieval knight ROLAND (see stadtwappen).

LEONHARD PAULIG Rothenburger Hutmanufaktur had a large office installation in ROTHENBURG a.d. ODER. His well-known specialties before WW2 were the patented not frail “unzerbrechlich” wollfilzhute and klapphute (D.R.G.M. 302620).

He used a very distinctive logo (in gold, silver or blue colour): a ¾ right-oriented visor between two scrolls with the inscrïption LEPARO Fabrikmarke (above) Leonhard Paulig Rothenburg Oder (below).

Currently, this logo is extensively faked.

OSKAR HERTLEIN of ERLANGEN used as his logo the stadtwappen (see image) with an overhanging ¾ left-oriented visor and a central H, all in gold or silver colour. Sporadically in grey-bluish woven on a dark yellow rhomb too, bearing the inscrïption “Deutsche Wertarbeit” in fraktur fonts.

WILLY SPRENGPFEIL Nordd-Uniform-Mutzen-Fabrik, HAMBURG 19, used a very distinctive logo: a lion which brandishes an half-rudder and a pointed upwards arrow, all inscribed within a rhomb and printed in blue or red-brownish colour. I’m convinced it is currently quite faked.

Best regards, enorepap :roi:

now it's time for the fifth index part:

TR HAT MAKERS AND DISTRIBUTORS
NAME SURNAME TOWN ADDRESS NOTES
August GEIGER KIEL Danischestr. 24 Since 1875
A.F. CZIASTO HAMBURG
Fr. BEURIGER KAISERSLAUTERN
Friedrich ISSLER STUTTGART Boblingerstr. 75
Hans LENZEN SAARBRUCKEN Tauentzienstr.17
Heinrich VON DER AA BREMEN Osterorsteinweg 40/41 Since 1905. Now inh.Gerhard SIEMER Gmbh
Hermann FROHLICH BRAUNSCHWEIG Madamenweg 30
H. POLLMANN MUNCHEN ? strasse 64
J. DENECKE BURGDORF i. H.
Karl RUPP KARLSRUHE Kaiserstrasse 28 Since 1908

Richard GROHMANN PLAUEN i. V.
Richard KERMES BREMEN
Hermann SCHELLHORN OFFENBACH a. M.
W. & L. MULLER BREMEN VEGESACK Bahnhofstr. 18

And now a second little bit of information about some others quite obscure makers and distributors:

HERMANN NAUBERT of ERFURT used a very distinctive logo: HNE words shaping a left-oriented head with visor on a gilt semicircle, over a scroll with his full name and residence. There is also a variant printed in silver, over a scroll with the inscrïption DEUTSCHE WERTARBEIT in block capitals.

FELIX WEISSBACH of GLAUCHAU used two main types of label, all characterized by the presence of a circle with a stylized eagle (right-oriented head) bearing the words DEUTSCHE WERTARBEIT on the chest. The first pattern had an inscrïption with his full name and residence below the circle;
The second pattern had the words Fewegla (over) and Erstklassig or Sonderklasse (under) added to the circle.

LUDWIG WORZ of ULM a.D., Herdbruckerstr. 30, used a plain label with his full name and residence.

ALM GEBRUDER (BROTHERS) of BERLIN, Kreuzbergstr. 30, used a plain label with their name and residence.

KARL COLLING of ST.WENDEL, Luisenstr. 15, had a very distinctive logo: Two crossed sabres with a superimposed feathered helm.

E. MULLER (EMS) of STUTTGART used a plain label with his name, monogram and residence.

C. POSE of BERLIN used on his shakos a rhomboid-logo with an eagle and a ear of corn.

ALOIS KATTINGER of WIEN used a rhomb with a left-oriented visor and his full name and residence.

ADALBERT BREITER of MUNCHEN used a very self-explaining logo with the Dome silhouette and his surname. All the residences were gilt-printed on blue or red underneath scrolls.

C. LOUIS WEBER of HANNOVER had a plain label with his monogram and residence.

CARL BANGERT of KOBLENZ had a plain label with his full name and residence.

E. SCHLUTER (ESN) of GOTTINGEN, Weenderstr. 28, had a plain label with his monogram, full name, residence and year of establishment.

Just a little question about the fifth index part:
Apparently, ALFRED VOGEL and FRIEDRICH ISSLER had their offices at the same address of STUTTGART, Boblingerstrasse or, however, they were very close each other! This is an oddity I'm still trying to solve...

a third bunch of information:

FRANZ RITTER of DETTINGEN used a very distintive logo showing a gilt (or dark) knight, riding a pranced horse.

(RZM A1/1331)
Vorm. Carl ROTH, DETTINGEN am MAIN, Horsteinerstr. 3
Vorm. H.K. FLAUDER, MINDEN, Heidestr. 19

JULIUS KUHN of DRESDEN used a simple silver circular logo

RICHARD GROHMANN of PLAUEN used a plain label with his name and residence

WILLY ROHE of KOBLENZ used a silver circular logo showing his monogram

HERMANN VOCKRODT of KASSEL used three different labels, probably according to the origins of the products he traded:

-Uniformhaus Hermann Vockrodt Kassel Kolnischestr. 7, for his own products
-as above but all gilt and with the company’s name in fraktur fonts, on products coming from H. SCHADE KASSELER MUTZENFABRIK
-as above but with an oakleaf at the top, on products traded with the generic logo Deutsche Arbeit Marke STANDARD

The H. SCHADE KASSELER MUTZENFABRIK of KASSEL, Kolnischestr. 33, used a triangle with inner KM monogram and DIE GUTE QUALITAT inscrïption outside.

GUSTAV ASCHENNELLER of MUNCHEN used a plain label with his name and residence of Dachauerstr.151.
There was also a different circular one showing his office in Schleissheimerstrasse.

POLLMANN of MUNCHEN used a plain label with his name and residence in silver italics.

Another bunch of information about a very impressive, obscure and heavily faked maker EXTRA KLASSE MARKE STANDARD. With regard to the visors’ craftsmanship, many officers’ and NCO/EMs’ models were often characterized by an half-moon stirndruckfrei; a sweatband with back tassel, front sponge and 4/5 rows of aeration perforations; a nice pleated lining. With regard to the logo, it shows a big eagle (left-oriented head) bearing a shield on the chest with the words Extra klasse in fraktur fonts. The diamond’s lower corner shows a scroll with the words marke standard in lower-case block letters. All are gilt embossed or almost black impressed.

Another little increase sixth index part:

Vinzenz RUHLAND PASSAU Steinweg
August SCHMID FRANKFURT a. M.
Hermann NAUBERT ERFURT
Ernst RAUCH HALBERSTADT
Hch. KASTNER ESSLINGEN
J. DIETERLE STUTTGART Langestrasse 20
L. REUTHER MUNCHEN Augustenstr. 45
W. SCHUBERT FRANKFURT a. M.
Wilh, NOE STUTTGART Esslingenstr. 11

I think it would be interesting to list the makers/distributors with regard to the main german towns where they lived and worked. I begin with KASSEL and MUNCHEN. If you agree, I will continue with other towns.

Kasseler makers/distributors:

Apart from KURT TRIEBEL KUTRIKA (who is now well-known because he is extensively faked under the HATRIKA logo), there were at least three other makers/distributors, all located in Kolnischestrasse:

HERMANN VOCKRODT, who used three different labels, probably according to the origins of the products he traded:

-Uniformhaus Hermann Vockrodt Kassel Kolnischestr. 7, for his own products

-as above but all gilt and with the company’s name in fraktur fonts, on products coming from H. SCHADE KASSELER MUTZENFABRIK

-as above but with an oakleaf at the top, on products traded with the generic logo Deutsche Arbeit Marke STANDARD

H. SCHADE KASSELER MUTZENFABRIK , Kolnischestr. 33, who used a triangle with inner KM monogram and DIE GUTE QUALITAT inscrïption outside.

An UNKNOWN with offices in Kolnischestr. 12.

Munchener makers/distributors:

Adalbert BREITER, had various offices
August MULLER,Dachauerstr.123(at present is extensively faked)
Gustav ASCHENNELLER,Dachauerstr.151 + Schleissheirmerstr. ?
L. KIELLEUTHNER,Maximilianstr. 43
M. DRECHSLER,Dachauerstr. 26
Max LINDNER,Augustenstr. 7
W. THIELE, ?
Johann Georg FREY, had various offices
H. POLLMANN,? strasse 64
L. REUTHER,Augustenstr. 45
Max PFEILER, Dachauerstr. 149

My favourite makers... ...East Prussia and Silesia

E. Leymann of Konigsberg, Weissgerberstr. 8 was a distributor of Erel products

Gustav Binner of Breslau, Ohlauerstr. 42, use a plain label with his name and residence

Gustav Thomas of Breslau, Ketzerberg 24, as above

Joh. Klementz of Jnsterburg, Hindenburgstr. 87, as above

Siegfried Frank of Jnsterburg, Rathaus-str. 8, as above but with the addition of an eagle and a knot

Last, but not least, don't forget Wistuba of Breslau, Ursulinenstr. 5/6

The last for this evening...the main austrian makers/distributors:

Some remarks about another obscure maker: ADLER MARKE.
The distinguish mark is a flying and thin left-oriented eagle, grasping a circle with talons. Within the circle are printed an A and probably an U and the eagle is flanked from the words ADLER (left) and MARKE (right). The eagle overhangs the inscrïption DEUTSCHES QUALITATS ERZEUGNIS within a sort of irregular and rounded scroll. In the lower part there is a rectangle with the word STIRNDRUCKFREI.
I've seen this logo silver printed and linked together contract and eigentum linings; sometimes also black printed, sporadically linked with apparent distributors.
I'm quite convinced this maker is currently highly faked.

It appears from my investigations that there were two homonym firms involved in the trade of headgears in the town of PASSAU, but I don’t know if there was also an affinity between them:
VINZENZ RUHLAND mutzen u. pelze, located in Steinweg. He used this inscrïption within an old-fashioned silver oval;
FRANZ RUHLAND, who used a very distinctive logo showing a silver close-up lion on a background eight-pointed breast star.

HEINRICH BALKE mutzenfabrik of BREMEN was established in 1888. They used the inscrïption DEUTSCHE WERTARBEIT above the stadtwappen (full version) with an H and B at the sides of the town’s key. The whole drawing (that remained quite unaltered also in the post-war production) is very attractive because it is printed, according to the period, in a wide variety of colours: silver/red; silver; white; gold/blue.

HIERTEIS SOHNE of FURTH was established in 1864 and used an immutable silver Bavarian coat of arms.

KASPAR LUTHER of REGENSBURG used a plain rhomb with silver fraktur embossed inscrïption.

LUDWIG REUTHER uniform-mutzen fabrikation of MUNCHEN used a plain rhomb with his name, diagonally printed in silver.

SIMKE Modische Pelze Hute Mutzen of ASCHERSLEBEN used the stadtwappen printed on a flat and elongated rhomb.

Best regards :roi:

Another little addition of makers/distributors:

Otto SINDEL BERLIN
Eugen KOCH LUDWIGSBURG
Louis LORZ DARMSTADT
Theodor BREDTHAUER BRAUNSCHWEIG
WULF & CO. TONNDORF

With the exception of the SINDEL Militareffekten and Lederwarenfabrik, who was a well-known company, located in Holzmarktstr. 67 of Berlin and involved in making dagger, bayonet and sword hangers, frogs, belts, chinstraps, etc., I don't have accurate information about the others. I will be glad to receive your feedback!

Well... with the highly esteemed help of Jacques, it's now possible to add some other names to the index:

Fritz STEINBERGER WURZBURG
ROTHFISCHER GOPPINGEN
M. SCHLOFFEL RUSTRINGEN
Karl BITTNER HALLE a.d. SAALE Geiststr. 67
Fritz BOGEL LOTZEN Konigsbergerstr.
Felix PREISER RASTATT

Just some information about another maker:

OTTO SCHLIENTZ of STRAUBING used a right-oriented visor with OS monogram, within a circle formed by his name and residence. Previously, this company used an early label with a silver coat-of-arms (above), denomination and residence (in the middle) and the inscrïption Landshut Silberne Medaille 1903 (lower).

best regards

P.S: Be careful with SCHLIENTZ's visors!!! There are quite perfect modern copies on the market, but...take a close look to the logo: the right-oriented visor-shape (which band is formed by the OS monogram) doesn't show the half-right hoheitsabzeichen !!!

A notation about some quite famous firms:

- to avoid confusion with Albert KEMPF post-war production, it is to remark that they previously used three different labels:
- a simple inscrïption Lieferant/Albert Kempf/Ronsdorf with
size and year of delivery;
- a flat rhomb, circumscribed by the inscrïption Lieferant
Albert Kempf Wuppertal-Ronsdorf and the abbreviation Alkero
within. There was an imperial crown over the rhomb and a
scroll with the inscrïption Uniformmutzenfabrik under it;
- an oval, circumscribed by the inscrïption Lieferant Albert
Kempf and the monogram AK within. It was sustained by two
crowned lions and all was overtopped by a royal crown.

- August GEIGER used a floating light on three waves and a base with the word Kiel. There were the letters A (left) and G
right) besides the flashes and an inscrïption (on four rows)
under the whole drawing: Eingetr.Schutzm./Aug.Geiger/Kiel/
Danische-str. 24.

- August MULLER is a very highly faked maker. So, it could be useful to know that it's logo was a rhomb circumscribed by the inscrïption: Aug. Muller (.) Munchen (.) Dachauerstr. 123 (.) telefon 56461 (.) and the intertwined monogram AM within, clearly not reaching the rhomb inner sides. Moreover, the fakes I have seen show a vulgar mistake about the address' number:23 instead of 123.
